Strawberry Compote Recipe
How to Make an Easy Strawberry Compote for the Best Breakfast on the Campsite!
This is one of the easiest camping recipes you will ever encounter! This recipe only requires 3 ingredients and a little bit of patience! Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day so I must show out! I pair this recipe with the Krusteaz Buttermilk pancake mix. I always get the "just add water mix" for easy mixing and less ingredients to carry. I have found this brand to be the best tasting box pancakes, don't debate me, debate Jemima! All my recipes are for two so double it for 4!
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon of unsalted butter
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups diced fresh strawberries
This recipe requires a camp stove but if you have a dutch oven or pans that can handle direct high heat, you can cook this on a campfire. The stove we use for this recipe is called the Eureka Ignite Camp Stove, gifted to us by Eureka Camping.
Add all 3 ingredients to pot. I like to use a little sauce pan or a 1qt pot.
Turn on camp stove to lowest heat setting.
Cover with foil or top. I like to cover the mixture so the moisture can help the fruit soften faster.
Let ingredients cook down for about 15 mins. Check and stir frequently, especially if using a campfire.
The strawberries will start to get soft and the sugar will turn into liquid. You will know your compote is done when the strawberries start to lose a bit of their shape and the mixture turns red.
Serve cooled or hot over buttermilk pancakes! Be very careful your mixture will be very hot!
