Waterfall Glen
Why Waterfall Glen is Perfect for Beginner Hikers!
First of all, The trail is close to Chicago. It's only a 35-45 min drive depending on traffic!
Second, it's easy as hell to navigate!! It's one giant paved loop that stretches a little over 9 miles and it takes about 3-4 hours to complete the whole thing. I have honestly never done the whole thing but I have walked 9 miles around because of various side quests.
I also love how you can dip off onto other trails! You can be all up in the woods on unpaved trails (if you want to). It even includes this cute baby waterfall. You will find people playing and wading in the waters. You should try it too! But if you are a beginner just stay on the super wide trail and all will be well. You see what I did there?
I actually went to a trail running event here with Lululemon. I went with my friend Sara from 77 Flavors Chi. Since it was an all women event we had to leave the men behind. It was really nice experiencing the trail in the new trail running sneakers because I have only worn hiking boots out on any trail. It was also a networking event, so it was dope to meet women from the city who like to run and hike. I met Lululemon ambassador and athlete Kayla Jeter in the locker room (I was trying not to fangirl, but I did!). Some people ran like 7 miles through the park but I only walked 3 miles, because I can not run longer than 2.5 miles without passing away. As you can see you can enjoy this trail in a variety of ways. Hiking, biking, with friends, running or alone! See you out there!
