3 Reasons Why We Love the 606 Trail
It's easily accessible: We love the 606 because you can pull up to this trail at over 12 access points. Some streets we use to access the trail are Humboldt, California, Rockwell, and Western. We like to park near a random school called Richard Yates Elementary. The area is pretty safe, well lit and heavily trafficked. The entrances have ramps for bikes and wheelchairs and steps for everyone else. Since it is so accessible, it tends to be very crowded on summer weeknights, weekday mornings and pretty much all weekend. Some people skate, run, bike and walk. Most people are nice and know how to share the path, but I would still be on the lookout for carless bikers.
We can eat and shop: Where in the world can you take a "hood hike" to a restaurant? Sometimes we like to walk to our favorite burger spot called Small Cheval. When we are on our nightly walks we also stop at Aldi for a few groceries to bring home. We love multitasking! It's amazing how many stores and restaurants you can find along the 606 trail. You can even bar hop using the 606! The possibilities are endless.
Cool Programs along the trail: The chicago park district has many art installations made by local chicago artists. They also include QR codes along the 3 mile trail where you can listen to music like "nature sounds" and "ghost of bloomingdale trail" during halloween! Along the trail there's a bathroom and a water fill up station near Western called "Trailhead".
